What types of EDS are associated with pain and/or chronic pain? Print E-mail

Certainly Hypermobility EDS (type III). Probably for some people with Classical EDS (type I and II). Back pain with scoliosis in Kyphoscoliosis EDS (type VI). Joint pain and early degenerative arthritis are part of Hypermobility EDS (type III) and Arthrochalasia (typeVII). Answered by: Peter Byers, MD.

Individuals EDS experience frequent and severe pain. Because EDS is relatively rare, no systematic study of pain in this population or its relief has been performed. Chronic pain is a manifestation of Ehlers Danlos Syndrome. (Sacheti. et.al. J PainSymptom Manag; 14,(2):88-93).

Those experiencing chronic pain can also experience among other things affects to physical activity, sleep, job/school, social relations and sex life in a negative way.
