Noah Baerman Summer 2010

Summer music festival season is in full bloom, and Noah Baerman has several such gigs coming up, plus a club gig in the Berkshires, over the next month.

This Saturday, 8/14, he will be performing his "Know Thyself" suite at the New Haven Jazz Festival. For those unfamiliar with "Know Thyself," it is an hour-long suite for jazz septet that Noah composed last year thanks to the "New Works" grant from Chamber Music America, funded by the Doris Duke Foundation. "It is also by far the most personal and most ambitious music I have created to date, so it is very special for me to be able to present it again (stay tuned as well for news about the release of the 'Know Thyself' album this fall). We play at 4:00, but I encourage you to stick around for the other acts and to return the following Saturday for the next round; other festival participants include Bobby Watson, Winard Harper, Steve Davis with Larry Willis, Joe Morris, Claudia Acuna, Robby Ameen and others."

As with the recording and the debut performances last November, the fabulous musicians joining Noah this Saturday will include Wayne Escoffery on tenor and soprano saxophones, Erica Von Kleist on alto saxophone and flute, Chris Dingman on vibes, Amanda Monaco on guitar, Henry Lugo on bass and Vinnie Sperrazza on drums. "If you want to be taken on an intense, hour-long musical/emotional journey, this is a good opportunity - come early and sit close! On the other hand, it is a free outdoor festival, so if you want to bring your kids and have a relaxed picnic without fear of rudeness, this is the place for that as well. Either way, come to the merch tent to say hello afterwards," Noah says.
